Gardening - 4/2/2009

So, I have this neighbor, Julie, who is REALLY into gardening. She is contstantly on the lookout for bat guano to fertilize her plants, she uses a fake owl as a scarecrow to ward off hungry birds and rodents, and she has single-handly started her own version of flower power in our neighborhood. Currently, I have about 60 gladioli growing in my front yard thanks to her flower power movement of 2009.

Last week, she and another friend, Marty, spent several hours over multiple days to build a raised bed for me. Today, the project is finally complete and I will order 4 cubic yards of soil to fill it. The bed itself covers 100 cubic feet which will be plenty for what I want to plant: tomatoes, sunflowers, cucumbers, squash, lettuce, bell peppers, and jalepenos.

I've been warned to plant the jalepenos away from everything else. Julie has had them cross pollentate with her regular bell peppers which came as a surprise one evening at the dinner table.

Stay tuned...photos are surely to follow. I plan to post photos daily to document the growth.
